Fabulous Flowers

For some, August signals the end of summer. Schools are opening in some parts of the country, days are getting shorter and the highly anticipated spiced pumpkin latté is popping up all over the place. Let me be clear. At my house, summer lasts through September 21st (and, quite frankly, a little longer if we’re lucky!) How do I know this? Because of the flowers. There are an abundance of annuals, perennials and wildflowers that are still blooming, or even just beginning to show us their pretty petals.

There are so many beautiful flowers to enjoy. Hydrangeas and Hibiscus are still in bloom. Cone Flowers, Sunflowers and Chrysanthemums are beginning to show us their colors. And fields of wildflowers harken the dreamy "dog days” of late summer.

If you’re looking for something to do this August, I encourage you to research botanical gardens in your area. They have varieties from all over the world and this time of year is the best time to visit. Or maybe you want to freshen up your own landscape. Check out local nurseries and talk to them about the best varieties for your neck of the woods. They can help with things like what types of flowers do best in the soil in your area, how much or how little to water, how tall a plant will get and whether or not they will spread.

Flowers have been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember. They’ve inspired my glassware and home décor products and just create a general environment of happiness and beauty.

I hope you have some fabulous flowers in your view!
