Lazy Days of Summer

Lazy Days of Summer

I read recently that we will be celebrating yet another (in)famous national holiday soon. That’s right, National Lazy Day is apparently celebrated on August 10th. I say this “tongue-in-cheek” as pretty much every day of the year is now set aside to commemorate some food, drink, animal, cause or action.

But then I got thinking a little more about this one. My research tells me it was initiated to remind people to unwind and rejuvenate. Hmm, this might not be such a bad idea.

So many of us feel like we are on this perpetual hamster wheel. Whether it’s work, school, caring for children, caring for parents….one day seems to melt into the next and we just GO, GO, GO! I love my work, I love my life, I love my family and friends, but I am definitely guilty of jumping from one thing to the next, forgetting to stop and “smell the roses.”

So this year, on or around August 10th, I’m going to make a conscious decision to have a Lazy Day. What will I do? I’m not sure yet, but it will be something that I enjoy, but rarely make time for. Perhaps I’ll sit on the porch all day and read an entire book. Maybe I’ll switch on Netflix and binge watch some guilty pleasure series. If the weather is nice, I might just mix up a pitcher of my favorite cocktail and lounge by the pool. Whatever I do, I will feel lazy, but lucky.

If any of you see yourselves in this post, I encourage you to do the same. What better time than summer to have a Lazy Day? Step away from social media, put your “away” message on, don’t answer non-emergency phone calls, but DO something that makes you feel lazy, in a good way. Re-charge your mind and your body, they will thank you for it!
