A Flourish of Flowers

A Flourish of Flowers

If you’ve been following our Golden Hill Studio blog, you well know that I am itching for spring. I don’t mind cozying up by the fire with some hot chocolate in January, but by the end of March I’ve got green grass, and birds chirping and flowers on my mind!

As I talked about last week, I like to start some annuals inside from seed, so that I can plant them outdoors as soon as the ground is thawed. I also have my tried and true perennials; Peonies, Cosmos, Asters, Lilies and Phlox, that resurface every spring and summer. During the months that these are blooming, I will often cut some to put in a vase or pitcher for a table or counter decoration.

Even if you don’t have your own blooms outside your door, flowers are still a relatively simple and inexpensive way to decorate your home or office. For example, a bouquet of carnations will cost just a few dollars. Keep the stems long in a glass or porcelain pitcher, or cut them short and float them in a bowl of water. Either way, they should last several weeks!
