Endless Evergreens

Endless Evergreens

As the holidays approach many of us are thinking about Christmas Trees. When to get it; what kind to get; when to put the tree up etc. But there are so many additional festive decorations to be made with evergreen boughs. Creating beautiful pine, spruce, fir or other coniferous decor can be done right now and enjoyed throughout the entire winter season.

Evergreen Garlands

Garland’s are a simple, yet elegant way to display greens either inside or outside of your home. Use garland to wrap around your railings, adorn your front door, or drape along your fireplace mantel. Fresh Exchange offers a great tutorial on making your own evergreen garlands.

Evergreen Wreaths

A Christmas Wreath is a classic, traditional way to show your holiday spirit. You can stick with a simple wreath of evergreen boughs and brightly colored ribbon or go all out adding berries, vines, and small Christmas ornaments. I love this step-by-step from Melissa K Norris.

Evergreen Kissing Balls

In Victorian times, kissing balls held the same magic as mistletoe. Get a kiss under the ball and you were on your way to a fairytale marriage. While that may or may not be the case, kissing balls make for beautiful decor to hang from your porch, lantern post or high ceiling. Proven Winners has a super helpful DIY article to help you create your very own kissing ball.

Evergreen Centerpieces

Are you hosting a holiday dinner or party this year? You can make your own beautiful table centerpiece out of evergreen boughs and use it multiple times throughout the season. This “How To” from Celebrate & Decorate will show you just how easy it is to create a show stopping piece for your table!

Some notes when thinking about making your own evergreen décor: If you have access to public land, or live near an unposted wooded area, you can save money by collecting your own boughs for your projects. In addition, many lots that sell Christmas Trees, also offer evergreen boughs for a minimal cost. Do some research to know what each type of evergreen looks like. The texture and color can vary quite a bit. And remember, some types of evergreens naturally last longer than others, so what kind you use, may depend on how long you hope to have it on display. After that you are ready to get started!
