Are you planning a small gathering, maybe a special birthday or anniversary celebration, or possibly even hosting an intimate wedding? Do you want it to be elegant and classy, but afraid you don’t have time to pull it all together?
Many of us find ourselves in this predicament simply because we have very busy lives. But there are several ways to reduce the stress that comes with planning an event in your home. Below are some things I do to keep my sanity in these situations!
1) Plan ahead – Whenever possible, have a timeline of AT LEAST several weeks leading up to the celebration. This allows time for cleaning as well as ordering any items you might need that you don’t already have.
2) Make a list – First, write down anything you can think of that needs to be done before and during the event. Prioritize your list by listing those tasks that take the longest first, and then those that can be done closer to the deadline towards the end. Add to your list whenever you think of something else, and the best part? Cross things off as you accomplish them!
3) Don’t be afraid to ask for help – If you have friends or family that will be included in the celebration, or even that fantastic neighbor who just likes to help out, enlist them with chores and errands to save you time.
4) Use your freezer – If you are making some, or all of the food to be served, again, start with a list. Many things can be made ahead of time, and frozen for several days or weeks, leaving just the last minute items for the day before or day of the event. Just don’t forget to take things out of the freezer in time to thaw completely!
With a little forethought and planning, not only will you be the Hostess with the Mostest, but you’ll actually be able to relax and enjoy your company as well!
