Vineyards & Wineries; It's not just Napa!
As we continue to look for outdoor activities where we can socialize in a safe environment, it occurred to me that one of my favorite activities maybe a perfect solution! Never mind the exceptional and historical wineries of Napa, or the endless vineyards of Tuscany, or the Champagne region of France. There has been a huge increase in the number of wine grape growers and wine makers across the U.S. in the last 20 years and many of them are exceptionally good and relatively affordable wines.
I’m lucky to live within a few hours’ drive of the Finger Lakes, here in New York. The Finger Lakes region boasts over 100 wineries centered around Keuka, Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. If you don’t live near this beautiful and amazing part of upstate New York, check your local area for what they have to offer. I’ve been lucky enough to visit some incredible wineries in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont and southern California.
Many of these vineyards and wineries offer tours and tastings. And right now, most of them are able to accommodate outside tastings and serving. I spent a recent Saturday afternoon with some friends tasting some fabulous Chardonnays, Rieslings and Rosés outside overlooking grape bushes as far as the eye could see. After the tasting, we grabbed our own lawn chairs, picked a spot on the wide-open lawn, and ordered several bottles to share, along with a charcuterie board we made and brought along. Check to see what the rules are at a winery near you, and then call your girlfriends, or your mom or your significant other, head to the winery and enjoy!
